Richard's Diary......Sporting Targets in Bedfordshire

Tuesday 17th April saw the latest leg of my tour arrive at Sporting Targets Ltd in Riseley, Bedfordshire. After torrential rain for most of my journey up the M1, the sky cleared when I arrived and the sun came out which was hopefully a good sign for my visit....

Tea in hand I met with the ground owner Andrew Clifton who showed me round their very comfortable clubhouse and explained that he and his Dad opened the ground in 1990 and now offer a range of activities to complement their extensive shooting layouts.

Sporting Targets is a CPSA Premier Plus Ground and is open 7 days a week so there is no excuse for not getting down there to practice or maybe have a lesson or two....The layouts offer an excellent range of targets with Sporting, Skeet & Compak along with 3 formidable looking towers of 60', 110' & 120' with enough traps on each to give multiple presentations and really test your skills!!

They have almost 1,000 members at the ground and membership costs £60 for the first year with various discounts for Juniors, family memberships etc and this enables you to get the usual discounts on tuition and practice and so on. Also if you recommend a friend to join you get 50 free clays.

The Club runs many registered and open competitions throughout the year and has an impressive shop and gunroom to stock up on any accessories and cartridges you may need.

They actively support National Shooting Week which is the 2nd - 10th June this year and you can turn up and Have a Go for £15 for 20 Clays & Cartridges with an Instructor on hand to get you hitting those clays. Last year saw 125 people have a go and many subsequently returned for lessons which was brilliant news.

Another interesting initiative is their Junior Taster Sessions which is specifically for under 18's and gets you 2 hours of instruction on Clay Shooting, Archery & Air Rifles for just £27.00pp.

They are also working with schools to promote our sport which is great and sponsor Kimbolton School from Huntingdon who shoot at the ground twice a week.

Other than shooting, as previously mentioned there is the opportunity to try Quad Biking, Dune Buggies or the 4x4 Off Road course so something hopefully for everyone.

Lastly, I would just like to thank Andrew for his time and hospitality during my visit and recommend you try out the fantastic facilities they have to offer. Check out their website www.sportingtargets.co.uk for more info and fixtures.
