Richard's Diary......Nottingham & District Gun Club

The second leg of last week's tour took me to Nottingham & District Gun Club in Oxton, Nottinghamshire on Thursday 19th April where I met with the ground owner Carl Smith & Club Secretary John Martin.

This is a CPSA Premier ground and along with the shooting facilities on site they offer a range of other activities including Tank Driving, Go Karting, Quad Biking and Buggies to name a few.

They are also celebrating this year as the Club is 50 years old this year and is still going strong. Infact they are looking to expand their facilities considerably in the very near future so watch this space. We'll report again as things develop.

Carl tells me that they have a membership base of about 250 and that membership costs £35 per year which gets the usual discounts at the desk along with subsidised BBQ events during the Summer months!

They hold regular registered and open competitions and specialise in Skeet & Trap with multiple layouts along with a Compak Sporting layout so do check their website for fixture details.

Regular supporters of National Shooting Week which is the 2nd - 10th June this year, they hold Have a Go events costing £7.50 for 15 Clays & Cartridges so if you know someone who might be interested, contact the Club and get them along there. We all had to start somewhere so these events are the perfect introduction to our fantastic sport...

I also learn't of another new initiative that they are looking to launch which I think sounds like an excellent plan. It's called Pro Am and is a mentoring program whereby a seasoned Skeet/Trap Competition Shooter takes a new shot under their wing and helps them develop their shooting and get into the Competition environment which for many can be a daunting prospect. As it's a voluntary plan, I think this is really great and I look forward to hearing how it progress'.

Finally, I'd like to thank Carl & John for their time & hospitality and for the guided tour of the ground. Do take a look at their website www.nottinghamgunclub.co.uk to see everything they have to offer and I would recommend making a visit to this friendly and welcoming ground asap.
