The sun was shining as Pete & I arrived at the shooting
ground, which is only 500m from the beach, just before 9am to find a queue of
cars full of excited shooters ready to take on the first targets in this series
of 50 bird Sporting Competitions. The Ground Owner Barry Gibb was on good form
sorting out free tea and biscuits for us whilst we waited for his Kitchen Staff
to arrive and get the bacon sandwiches on the go…..an all-important requirement
before shooting starts in my opinion!
58 shooters turned up for the first fixture including one
young lady Faye Wills from Greenfields Shooting Ground who shot an excellent 37
ex 50 and we look forward to seeing her scores throughout the competition. The
58 who came, some of whom having travelled for 2 hours to get there,
represented 6 participating Clubs from Kent & Sussex including Southdown
Gun Club, Northall Clay Pigeon Club, Greenfields Shooting Ground, Normanhurst
Clay Pigeon Shoot, Stumbletts Gun Club and of course the home team from Deal
& Sandwich Shooting School.
Windy conditions made for some interesting targets but
thankfully only a short spell of rain came along before the sun returned and it
certainly didn’t dampen our spirits as everyone got through their 50 targets
without getting too soaked.
Congratulations to Normanhurst CPS for their winning team
score of 384 ex 500 and to Richard Leonard from Normanhurst who took the High
Gun with a superb 45 ex 50. Also many congratulations to the other Class
winners on the day, Geoff Jansz who took Teal Class & Jim Baker who took
Crow Class both from Greenfields Shooting Ground and Fred Church from Deal
& Sandwich Shooting School who took the Rabbit Class.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at the next fixture
at Greenfields SG on the 12th August and for those of you who
couldn’t make it to Deal, hopefully we’ll see you there.
For our Hampshire shooters out there just a reminder that
the Hampshire League kicks off on the 2nd September at Fareham Clay
Pigeon Club so if you haven’t already signed up to take part either speak to
your Club to see if they are participating or contact Richard at the CPSA on
01483 485400 or via e-mail on richard@cpsa.co.uk
for details of Clubs already signed up!
Looking Cool Guys...
